HISTORY OF CARTOON IN TABRIZ
Cartoon officially started at 1900 in Tabriz. "Shab Nameh" was the paper which was distributed secretly at nights. There were matters and cartoons against governors in a scoffing way. This was published by Mirza Talbof-e-Tabrizi. On 7th of April, 1906, "Molla Nasreddin" was published by Mirza Jalil Golizadeh, a great scoffer. This paper published in Teflis and 7 numbers of that was printed in "Tabriz Shishehgar Khaneh". Cartoonists like Roter-Shemerling, Behzad, Azimzadeh, Musayof, and Gersinosky helped this publication by their cartoons. These were very simple cartoons so that it could be easy for non-educated people to understand them. In most of these cartoons was a character of Molla Nasreddin. Then, some papers like one called "Azerbaijan" imitated this paper and criticized the despotism and dictatorship.
"Azerbaijan" published in a colorful and lithographical way and Bahlool, Ari, Manshaal, Amirin Babasi, Laklak and .... used cartoons, too.
But the rate of cartoon decreased as the despotism surrounded Iran, the parliament was cannonaded, and the democracy was pick up. There were no serious activities in this field.
When the 1979's Revolution happened in Iran, some papers were again published which were belonged to some special parties. In these illegal papers, cartoon was used a lot. But then, cartoon was again forgotten.
After the war between Iran and Iraq, cartoon was paid a lot attention and came along world-wide.
