INTERNATIONAL CARTOON COMPETITION
GOLDEN HATDiscover the 100 best cartoons from the oldest cartoon competition in the world.
Cartoonists from all corners of the world compete for the highest honor: the Grand Prize Golden Hat. Each year, their entries offer a surprising view of the state of the world — often confrontational, sometimes moving, but always with a touch of humor. Because humor is a powerful tool to break tension and create connection.
In times when freedom of expression is under pressure, cartoons are more relevant than ever. What the participants in the Golden Hat show is clear: in a polarized world, it is essential that we keep laughing — with each other, at ourselves, and even at what divides us. Humor connects where words fail.
The impressive figures show that the competition is still alive: for the 2025 edition, no fewer than 601 participants from 65 countries submitted a total of 2,535 cartoons for the Grand Prix Knokke-Heist.
The exhibition is accompanied by the Cartoons 2025 catalogue, published by Lannoo. The book, featuring the 100 laureates of the Golden Hat, also contains information about the jury and the winners of the competition. Cartoonist Steve Michiels wrote the essay 'Mijmerend aan de tekentafel' (Mindful at the drawing table) especially for this edition.
The ten nominated cartoonists for the Golden Hat 2025 are:
