Announced The Winners Of The International Humor Sapiens Award,2025
With the purpose of recognizing and encouraging the study, reflection, and promotion of humor as a cultural, artistic, social, and human phenomenon, the Humor Sapiens International Award 2025 is granted to:
1- Outstanding Individual:
Osvaldo Macedo de Sousa - Portugal
Historian, writer, curator, promoter, producer, and national and international researcher of caricature; curator of more than 300 exhibitions and author of over 40
studies and biographies of graphic humorists. He holds a degree in History from the Faculty of Letters of Lisbon. As a cultural producer and historian of graphic humor,
he has organized hundreds of exhibitions, conferences, and festivals in many countries. He is the coordinator of Humorgrafe, a Portuguese organization dedicated to
humor events (with more than 300 initiatives) and was director of the Casa do Humor in Lisbon (1989/90).
Author of more than 300 books, he has conducted extensive studies and research on humor around the world, including topics such as "Aging with Humor", "Humors
of the World", and "Museums of Humor" Among many distinctions, he received the "Balanito Especial" award in 1998 (Moura BD), the "Anim’Arte 99" Award in 1999
(GICAV), and in 2006 the "Oscar of Caricature", granted by a group of caricaturists in recognition of his 25-year career.
2-Outstanding Institution:
Quevedo Institute of the Arts of Humor - Spain
center for the study, promotion, and research of humor, created on December 20, 2011, by the Board of Trustees of the General Foundation of the University of Alcalá
(FGUA), Spain. Its purpose is to expand, transform, and project graphic humor within the academic and university spheres. Its objectives include fostering
communication and cooperation between the university community and public or private institutions interested in the study and research of humor; strengthening and
expanding educational activities at undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education levels to deepen the understanding of humor’s diverse aspects; promoting
research activities on humor and their dissemination through publications and media; and engaging in international cooperation related to its mission.
The IQH grants the Ibero-American Graphic Humor Award "Quevedos" and the Children’s Quevedos-Dos Awards every two years. It also co-organizes the annual GIN-
UAH International Graphic Humor Competition, as well as the awards for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral theses on humor.
