Cartoonist and caricaturist Manfred Deix died last Saturday at age 67 after a "long and difficult disease," said today the director of the Museum of Caricature Krems, Gottfried Gusenbauer.
"Manfred Deix was one of the great artists of Austria. There were and there are many taboos and unpleasant truths about those who could not speak but Deix opened our eyes with their images," Gusenbauer said in a statement.

The work of Manfred Deix includes current affairs, society, politics and domestic and drawings have become classics of Austrian cartoon scenes and has influenced other artists.
Deix published his drawings in the Austrian political magazine "Profil" and "News", but also in the German newspaper "Der Spiegel" or the American magazine "Playboy".
After his first collection of drawings in the book "Cartoons" in 1980 they were followed by other publications such as "Der goldene Deix" (The Deix gold) or "Der heilige Deix" (The Holy Deix) and "Für immer Deix!" (Deix Forever) in 2012.
Through his characters, usually unsightly, figures known as "Deixfigur" analyzed "the depths of the Austrian soul" according to the museum.
Manfred Deix was instrumental in founding the Museum of Caricature Krems, the only museum of pictorial and graphic critical satire in Austria, where currently showing an exhibition of his work "Fur immer Deix!" until January 16, 2017.
